Top 3 tips for creating Window Treatments on a Budget!

Tips on how to create beautiful top treatments without breaking the bank!

What determines the cost of any window covering are the labor cost, materials used and the installation cost.

Here are some tips to consider when you are planning your next window covering project!

  • The design: the simpler the design, the less expensive the treatment will be. Flat valances, inverted pleat valances, shirred and pinch pleated on a board, or a cornice board is considered less costly to fabricate. You can add a little touch to a simple flat valance by adding a contrast trim, tassels on each end, or perhaps some buttons in a coordinating fabric.
  • The cost of the materials: The variety is endless when selecting fabrics. You can find gorgeous kinds of cotton, silks, and woven blends at an affordable price. Mixing textures, or adding coordinating inexpensive trims, will give you that designer quality look at an affordable price. Another tip is to perhaps splurge on the hardware, and choose a modestly priced fabric. The rich, opulent look of the hardware will make up for the simplicity of the style and your choice of the fabric.
  • The installation cost: One way to cut on the installation cost is by choosing economically installed treatments. Cornices and board mounted valances are less expensive to install than sheared or pleated on a rod.

Finally, the best way to save money is by work with a professional, who will help you avoid costly mistakes, direct you, share expertise and resources, and respect your budget and work within it.

Draperies for a Piano Room Plainfield IL

“Piano Room” was the project we created for our client in Plainfield. The teenage daughter plays the piano, and the room needed to be serene and comfortable so the entire family could fully enjoy her performances. The room had walls with a faux finish that was a mix between suede and a pearl texture! Just lovely! It was in a gorgeous neutral color of off white and had a beautiful shimmer to it. The baby grand piano had a glossy black finish. Those were the design elements that I had to work with.

The window in the room had a shade with a shimmery fabric, which we had installed two years ago. Now it was time to finish the window with draperies. Three fabrics were selected: At the top, a ten-inch-long section of embroidered cotton in a design of black, grey, off white, and taupe circles. Then we added a three-inch black border. The rest of the panel was striped fabric. Again, we used black, grey, off white, and taupe.

When it came to drapery hardware, we selected glossy black to complement the piano. We selected rings and finials that have white diamond-like stones. The wall facing the entry had three framed black-and-white Parisian images, in taupe/silver frames. Two black chairs with white, black and gray printed upholstery were placed on each side of the window. WOW! Even I am impressed that the room turned out as beautiful as it did – and I was there every step of the way. Imagine the client’s delight when people see the room for the first time!

New trends in design 2014

New trends in design 2014!
The home decorating industry it gets influenced by the fashion industry. What you see in the fashion world as far as trends, colors and styles get adapted in the home furnishing and interior design world.

As an example:

1) we see freedom in decorating, more of an eclectic style and the trend of mixing rather than matching. Mixing of different types of woods, mix of rustic styles with ultra-modern ones.
Example using woven wood shades with silk panels.

2) The use of motorized shades and window covering. Especially windows that are high, windows that are hard to reach (over a bath tub, or over the sink in the kitchen). Also motorization is used for child and pet safety. Motorization is becoming very affordable and really easy to program and use. We carry many brands Like Hunter Douglas, Graber, Comfortex, and recently we added Serena shades by Lutron that is an excellent brand and very affordable. Take a look at the video below:

3) The use of heavy draperies is out, now we see stationary side panels, sheers over silk or velvet instead of the sheers being under the heavy draperies. Creating the hotel look in master bedrooms by using room darkening materials as the first layer the sheer draperies as a second layer.

Here Is an example:

4) New ways to use embellishments and very unique trims, braids and tassels.

5) colors with gray undertones, especially in neutrals and strong pop of colors that are clear tones as accents.

6)We see fabrics with birds motif:

 7) The Chevron Motif:
