Draperies for a little girl’s Bedroom in Chicago!

Draperies for a little girl’s Bedroom in Chicago!

Soft Sheer draperies were selected as the window treatment for this sweet little girl’s bedroom in Chicago Illinois.

The goal was to use colors that worked well with her bedding. Three colors of sheers were selected, the white, then the yellow green and the pink at the bottom. The three sections of sheers were separated by a trim braid  in matching colors. White pole and rings worked well with the white wood blinds.

The walls were stenciled with flowers motif found in the bed cover, the stencils have added that one of a kind custom look. The stencil work was done by Jo Ann Ketcik of Decorative Effects, Minooka, Illinois.

Suzani fabrics, historic facts!

One trend that has become very popular the past few years is the use of Suzani motif in fabrics. The Suzani name came from central Asia, to be specific Uzbekistan. The history of the Suzani designs came from  a tradition in that region, when a girl is born, all females in her tribe gather to honer her arrival. Then a wide and long piece of cloth made from silk or cotton depending on the wealth status of the family is purchased. The female eldest member of the tribe will draw a design made of paisley, circles and floral. Then the cloth is cut length wise into many strips, and each strip is given to different female members of the tribe. Those pieces will be embroidered in silk threads. When the girl gets married, the pieces are sewn together to form a large piece to be used as a bed cover or an item of furnishing. This is considered as her wedding gift from her family! This style of fabric design has traveled to other parts of the world along the silk trade rout. Today the Suzani designs is used beautifully in draperies, upholstery and modern home decor!

Drapery window treatment for a Burr Ridge Home!

The client request for this beautiful dining room was to keep the window as open as possible to let the light in, and to have long drapery panels on each side of the bay window. The home is traditional with many neoclassic features, therefore, the design of the draperies has to compliment the architecture, as well as enhance the window it self.

Here was our approach:

  • Have silk drapery panels at each corner of the bay, the panels are shirred tight to keep them slim in order to allow the light in and not to block the window.
  • The embroidered fabric used for the swags has tied in the colors of the upholstery on the chairs with the drapery panels.
  • The swags with it’s fringe, the drapery panels and they way they break on the floor, it supports the neoclassic ambiance.
