Layering your window treatment!

Layering is Not Just for Clothes!

Winter is around the corner! For Chicagoan layering clothes is the way to dress for warmth during winter. Sometimes layering clothes gives the overall look personality, uniqueness and style!

Your windows will need layering as well! Your blinds in most situations will provide insulation, light control, and protection from sun damage. Adding an extra layer of draperies will give you additional protection as well as providing an opportunity to include patterns, colors and style. More over adding drapes will be your way to revamp your existing treatment without starting from scratch.

Adding that extra layer require skill, knowledge, and resources. Call us for assistance (630) 420-0800. And remember our first hour is always free!

A girl’s bed room gets an interesting valance!

When I get the request to design a child’s bed room, I get really excited!!!!

Recently I got a call from a Naperville resident to design a valance for his 10 year old daughter, he mentioned that his daughter is into sports and very athletic, she is not much into pinks and frills, she likes her window treatment clean and simple.

He also mentioned the need for shades to keep the sunlight out, to help his daughter to sleep in on weekends and Holidays.

The valance design consisted of four separate parts connected together with lace that resembles athletic shoe. Each part had a curved edge on the bottom of the valance to add that softness and femininity.

Two shades (Room darkening, Applause shades by Hunter Douglas) was provided to keep the sun away as well as providing saving on the energy bills, which came as unexpected bonus to the dad!

Scary Windows will not scare us!

October is the season of cold weather, vibrant colors, apple orchards, pumpkin picking, and Halloween! While your children are dressing up in fun and scary costumes, take some extra time this month to dress up the scary windows in your home.

I’m talking about those difficult, large or odd-shaped windows that don’t have an easy fix when it comes to shades and blinds. Don’t let corner, bow, bay, octagon, arched, trapezoid, or high windows trouble you! There is an effective and affordable way to dress every single kind of window and we are not afraid to take up any window challenges you may have for us!

The window treatment you choose for your more elaborate décor projects should accentuate the natural beauty of that window and its view. You don’t want to hide the architectural details of the window’s design. Work with the shape, don’t hide it!

Here are some tips to wake you up from your window nightmares and get you closer to the home of your dreams:

1) Hard-to-reach windows don’t necessarily need to be dressed since they are usually too high to impede on your privacy. If there are light control issues, i.e. if the sun hits too harshly, look into motorization!

2) Skylights are beautiful assets to any room, but they need to be covered to prevent any harmful rays from destroying your furniture. Again, adjustable shades are ideal here. Look into remote-controlled shades, or simple cellular shades that can be opened and closed with a long wand.

3) Most shutters and blinds can be made to fit any irregularly shaped window. Just call in an expert if you aren’t sure of what to do. We are readily available to help you find a solution that suits you!

Plantation Shutters!

Plantation shutters not only add beauty, elegance, poise, and refinement to any home, but they also come at a great value!

Here are six reasons why you should add shutters to your home:

  • The rich, wooden shutters can be added to any type of interior space, whether the style is traditional, transitional, eclectic, or contemporary.
  • In the past, only the rich and wealthy were able to afford them. Now, shutters have the look and feel of expense without the overwhelming price.
  • With the ability to regulate how much sunlight enters your room, shutters are a great way to save energy.
  • They require very little maintenance and are easy to clean.
  • Since shutters are permanent unlike other window treatments, they will easily add value to your property when the time comes to sell your house.
  • Wooden shutters are very appealing to potential home buyers. They are considered a home addition and will help you sell your home faster, especially in a market like the one we have today.

Although the initial cost might be high, in the long run, you will find yourself justifying the initial investment because the shutters really do provide an economical solution.

Dining room in Lisle Illinois get a face lift!

Plain walls, cream colored upholstered chairs, and naked windows was not what my client wanted for her dining room!

The color scheme: She expressed the desire for warm bright yellows, greens, burned tangerine for a preferred color scheme.

The design: Traditional, but simplified.

Window Treatment: Privacy is important, simple yet elegant draperies, not too traditional, more transitional.

Walls: A modern clean finish.

Here are the solutions: Paint the walls in wide strips in two shades of a slightly muted yellows for bringing energy and stimulating the appetite.

The chairs reupholstered in two different fabrics, the back in a brick colored velvet and a tapestry in yellows greens and burned orange.

Hunter Douglas shades for privacy with drapery panels in soft yellow silk, trimmed in a scrumptious modern trim. The panels added luxury, warmth and the finishing touch the window needed.
