A child bed room gets a new window treatment, Burr Ridge IL

Take a look at the window treatment below, it is a kids bedroom at a Burr Ridge resident.

The window had an old wood blinds with unsafe cords. It was very out dated and did not add any esthetic value to the room.

My client wanted a nautical theme for the room. A cornice board was designed to bring the sea spirit in the room. the shades were carefully selected to support the theme as well as being cordless for child safety.

Custom sheer draperies for a client in Oak Brook Illinois!

Just wanted to share with you this great solution for windows facing the west side of the house, this house is located in Oak Brook Illinois. The client complaint was the excessive heat coming through the windows causing the air condition to go on non stop resulting in high electric bills!

The client also loves the look of  custom sheer draperies, although sheers alone will not provide the solution for the heat coming from the western exposure.

Here is what we proposed:

  • The first layer we are using cellular shades for privacy, light control, and energy efficiency.
  • second layer is black out lining, for energy saving and cutting the heat when needed.
  • The third layer is sheer draperies for the look the client is after, the sheers can be pulled together in the morning or in the evening while entertaining to give that elegant romantic look while the black out lining can be used when the sun is at  it’s strongest in the afternoon.

Custom cornices as window treatments!

Here are some benefits to using custom cornices as window treatment:

  • Custom cornices are considered an economical treatment, it uses less fabrics, and not too expensive to fabricate if it is  kept  simple.
  • Easy to install.
  • It helps seal the gaps around the top of the window, and that will minimize air leakage and reduces energy loss.
  • It is beautiful and very classical treatment that will not go out of style if it was designed well.
  • There are so many ways to make an ordinary cornice board extra ordinary, see the slide show below.

Custom Draperies with a romantic touch!

What comes to mind when the word romantic is mentioned? Personally I would think of Diamond, sparkle, shimmer, flowers, sheers, vibrant or soft shades of red, orange, pink or purple or any thing that might suggest romance!

As far as draperies, the design as well as the materials used can add a romantic feel to any space whether it is a bed room or not.

The type of fabric and the combination of textures, trims, and finishes, what will set the mood of a room.

Draperies, can be unique and extra ordinary!

How to create unique draperies for your home or office!

The most noticeable item when entering a room are the draperies or the window treatments. That’s why special attention must be given when designing the window treatment or the draperies.

Here are some tips to follow:

  • Use unique colors. Bright, strong colors are now in fashion. Become more adventurous and don’t be afraid of using bold colors.
  • Mix different fabrics in one treatment. Have a variety of textures, like mixing smooth and silky with textured and velvety or sheer and transparent with heavy and nubby fabrics.
  • Create layers. A panel can have several layers. Imagine a three layered panel, with sheers sandwiched between a layer of silk and velvet. A single panel like that pulled to the side with a unique tassel is enough to make an incredible statement!
  • Select one-of-a-kind hardware that will be the focal point of the entire treatment.
  • Use embellishments, such as tassels, fringes, trims, buttons, beads …etc. They can turn any ordinary treatment into something extraordinary!

Nowadays we have many choices when it comes to selecting fabric, hardware and embellishments. They can be of natural or man made material, imported or domestic, but that doesn’t mean they have to be expensive. The varying price points make custom window covering affordable to just about everyone!

Creating tranquility and comfort in a hotel room!

Recently I had the chance to stay at freshly remodeled Hampton motel in Seattle, Washington. The new design was very well put together and that really effected how I felt during my stay. There was an effort to create that feel of home, relaxing, restful environment.

The most comfortable bed dressed in all white soft linen, made me want to dive right into it!!! The duvet was so downy and soft, bunch of feathery, slouchy pillows, which made me want to stay in bed for that unsurpassed pampering!

Of course I paid close attention to the window treatment. The first layer was a screen shade which totally loved because it defused the bright light and gave the room  some privacy and one still could see out. The second layer was draperies with black out lining for total room darkening. Stationary panels in a large print framed the window on each side and a tailored cornice finished the window.

Although there was nothing out of the ordinary about the room but how it was put together, the colors, patterns, and the effort to create comfort, restful feeling, and serenity what made me feel down at home, and I couldn’t help feeling impressed!!!
